Who is Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy ?

The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) is an American non-profit organization committed to protecting the public by providing services and support to state licensing authorities in the physical therapy field. They develop and administer the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), which is used by the licensing authorities to determine the competency of candidates to practice as entry-level physical therapists or physical therapist assistants.

Step 1: Eligibility and Application

Before you can take the NPTE, you need to be deemed eligible by the licensing authority of the state in which you want to be licensed. After you've been approved, you can apply for the NPTE on the FSBPT website (www.fsbpt.org). You'll need to pay an exam fee and possibly additional fees depending on the state's requirements.

Step 2: Scheduling the Exam

Once your application is approved, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) letter, which will allow you to schedule your exam. The exam is administered by Prometric, a testing service company, and you can schedule your exam on their website (www.prometric.com). You can choose the location and date of your exam based on availability.

Step 3: Taking the Exam

The exam is taken at a Prometric testing center. There are hundreds of these centers across the United States and its territories, so you should be able to find a location that is convenient for you. On the day of the exam, you'll need to bring the ATT letter and a valid form of identification. The exam is computer-based and the time allowed for completion varies depending on whether you're taking the PT or PTA exam.
